Urswick Celebrates!

We have been celebrating a record number of GCSE Grade 9s, the highest possible grade. In particular Head Boy Zakariya achieved eight grade 9s in English and English Literature, Combined Science, History, Computer Science, Mandarin Chinese and Religious Studies. He missed a ‘Clean Sweep’ by a few marks passing Maths with a Grade 8.

Students were congratulated by Mayor Caroline Woodley and Deputy Mayor Anntoinette Bramble.

Zak, who is returning to the school Sixth Form said: “I am so happy with my results. I want to thank all my subject teachers for helping and believing in me, I can’t wait to come to the Urswick Sixth Form Academy and continue my journey. For those going into year 11 next year; I would say work hard, study hard it will all be worth it in the end.”

Other top performers were Jennifer with nine grade 7s and above including a grade nine in Religious Studies and Amira with a grade 9 in Psychology and nine grade 7s and above in total. Amira told the Mayor “I am so happy, I can’t believe I got a grade 9, it’s now time to celebrate!”

Gunay gained grade 9s in English Literature and Turkish and five grade 8s. Kaion  achieved grade 9s in History, Science and RS and grade 7 or above in every subject.

Head Girl, Jenessa gained grade 9 in Spanish alongside four grade 8s and grade 7 in every subject. Senior Prefect, Lucas, achieved grade 9s in Mandarin, Psychology and Science alongside grade 8s in every other subject.

Executive Headteacher Richard Brown said: ‘It’s great to see young people who have worked so hard be successful. The school ran a residential which we called ‘On the climb to nine’ which has definitely paid off. We also ran extra Saturday and Easter revision classes including for students who need extra support to get those all-important grade 4s and 5s.’

Mr Brown added: ‘Following record A Level results last week, this will get the new term off to an excellent start. Even after 16 years as Headteacher at this school I am still looking to the future and ways we can make the school even better!’
