Year 7 Transition (2026/2027)
I’m delighted to welcome you to The Urswick School. My name is Ms Rodrigues and I will be your Head of Learning when you join us in September. My job is to ensure you have a smooth transition into secondary school, creating strong foundations and getting you in to good habits for the rest of your school journey at The Urswick School. I’m here to help you with any concerns you may have, whether that’s to do with friendships, routines, your learning or even finding your way around the school.
Moving from primary to secondary school is a big transition and one that can bring a mixture of emotions. You might be feeling excited about new opportunities, curious about new subjects or eager to meet new people. At the same time, you may also be feeling a little bit nervous, unsure or even overwhelmed. Please try not to worry! Alongside other key members of staff, I will work with you on a daily basis supporting, encouraging and helping you to settle in.
The upcoming academic year may at times be challenging but I am confident that it will also be rewarding. Your Urswick Parents will play an active role in your school life. They are here to support you in reaching your full potential, by helping you to make positive choices and encouraging you to take on opportunities outside of the classroom.
I am sure that you will have questions about secondary school life. Hopefully the current Year 7s can answer them in our video below. You will also receive a Year 6 Newsletter and Transition Guide designed to answer any questions that you may have.
I look forward to meeting you all on Transition Day (Thursday 3rd July 2025) and welcoming you in September.
Yours sincerely,
Ms Rodrigues, Head of Year 7

Transition Day
I look forward to meeting your child at Transition Day on Thursday 2nd July. He/she should wear their primary school uniform and will need to bring his/her usual school equipment (pencil case with pen, pencil, ruler, etc) for lessons. Please provide your child with a packed lunch, including either water in a clear plastic bottle or fruit juice (fizzy drinks are not allowed). Lunch will not be provided by the School on Transition Day but a free school lunch will be provided for all students from September 2026.
All Year 6 students will be registered at the Paragon Road entrance at 8:45am and Transition Day will finish at 2:45pm. Please ensure that your child knows whether they are to travel home independently or to wait at the school gates to be collected at the end of the day.
Parental Transition Event
On Thursday 2nd July we will also be hosting a Transition Event for parents. The Headteacher and members of the Senior Leadership Team will be presenting important information for you to know prior to your child starting with us in September. This is a key opportunity for you to find out more about The Urswick School, our ethos and our main policies and procedures. You will also have the opportunity to view school uniform. The event starts at 2:00pm and will finish at the same time as your child/ren – 2:45pm. Please be prompt as latecomers will disrupt the meeting and there will be no entry after 2:10pm. We look forward to seeing you at this time - please make every effort to join us, even if you have an elder child at the school.
