Our 2024/25 Prefect team was announced at the recent Sedgwick service, their roles begun the following week when they were invited to a team building day called “Four Quarters”. This day consisted of a workshop in the morning, a presentation on the expectations of a prefect, a walk through on the duties and then deciding on the rota.
The workshop consisted of a carousel of 4 stations, Prefects were split into groups.

Activity 1 - Lego building.  Each team had to build a different rocket. This motivated the prefects to work together and understand other peoples’ opinions. The rocket had to be tall and sturdy, with a creative spin.

Activity 2 – A recreation of a Spice Girl’s music video. This enabled the team to step out of their comfort zones, relax and be more familiar with each other, in turn this created trust amongst the team and brought the team even closer together.

Activity 3- Egg Drop. Students had to build a suitable structure to protect an egg from a high drop; including a strict budget, the egg was not allowed to crack. This taught them how to bring ideas together to reach a common objective. This was fun and a great way to see how peoples’ minds work with different ideas.

Activity 4 – Portraits. Students were given a picture and were given sections of it to draw and paint, then at the end putting all the pieces together to create a true reflection of the original image. This taught us to use our creativity skills, and allowed some of the group to shine in a different way.

Students were then given a presentation about the expectations required of the prefect team from Miss King, Assistant Headteacher and HOL for year 11. This included daily duties, how to handle different scenarios as prefects but also allowed us to ask questions and speak on things that concerned and worried them. This was a great way to get hands on training.  Students then carried out a lunch duty to put some of these skills to the test. Lastly, the rotas for next year were drawn up.

The day allowed students to work on team building. Students said “What we learnt on the day was that we are a team and we all want to be successful, therefore we must support each other and work together throughout the year.”

Good Luck to the 2024-2025 Prefect Team!
