Urswick celebrates improved results
Nationally GCSE results may have gone down, but here, we have been celebrating our best ever GCSE results.
Richard Brown, Executive Headteacher explains: ‘The percentage of our students achieving 5 or more GCSEs, at grade 5 and above including English and Maths, is 4% higher than last year and 6% higher than 2019 – the last time students took GCSEs pre-Covid. There has been quite a lot of anxiety created by the exam boards and the media, but everyone at Urswick is delighted. All those catch up and revision classes, our Easter Revision School and the two residentials we organised for Year 11 students have really paid off’.
Esther Summers achieved seven grade 9s and two grade 8s. She thanked all of her teachers and said ‘My time here has been amazing. I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes just before year 10. I found school really hard before my diagnosis but during this time I was supported so well by the school and this made my journey so much easier and made me want to come to school and learn. Since my diagnosis the support has continued and helped me get to where I am today. I am so grateful.’
Yasmin Hassan gained six grade 9s, including grade 9s in Combined Science, English, Maths and History ‘I never thought that I would get to where I am today, I am forever thankful to school for all their support. Since year 9 it has been tough with COVID but with the school support we did it.’
Alvin Ositelu, who achieved four grade 9s in Maths and Combined Science, wants to be a software or electrical engineer will be joining the TUS Sixth Form in September.
Santiago Hernandez Castrillon achieved five grade 8s in Maths, Combined Science, Computer Science and English Literature.
Esther Bakare achieved four grade 9s and eight GCSEs in total having only joined the school during Year 11. ‘I have only been at the school for 9 months and the progress I have made in that time is amazing, I am so thankful to all my teachers for supporting me. I am staying on at The Urswick School Sixth Form because of all the support I have received.’
Huseyin Kanli achieved grade 9s in Turkish and Combined Science with every GCSE at grade 5 or above.
Former Head Girl Ade Adegbulugbe achieved grade 9 in Religious Studies and nine GCSEs at grade 5 and above, whilst former Head Boy Brandon Boateng also achieved grade 9 in Religious Studies and nine GCSEs at grade 5 and above. ‘being Head Girl at The Urswick School has really been a privilege. It has opened my eyes to experiences that I never thought I would have. I am so happy with my results and so thankful to everyone at the school. Believe and Achieve!’
Richard Brown added, ‘we are extremely proud of these young people who deserve their successes, as do our dedicated team of staff’.
