Urswick celebrates the Platinum Jubilee
Before breaking up for half term, students and staff celebrated the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in fine style. Every student received a special medal featuring the 2022 Jubilee on one side and the school’s logo on the reverse. Kept in a velvet purple pouch, these are designed to be a keep-sake about a unique occasion. In their after school Art Club, children had been designing bunting to decorate the school. We all celebrated with a special lunch of chicken, chips and salad followed by chocolate ice cream. Year 7 students have also been learning the opening two verses of the National Anthem in their Music lessons and these have been recorded.
Executive Headteacher, Richard Brown said: ‘The Queen has given a lifetime of service and 70 years on the throne is an achievement that will probably never be equalled. I still have a souvenir mug given to me at the time of the Silver Jubilee in 1977, so I wanted all of our children to have strong memories of the Platinum Jubilee celebrations and a momento of the occasion. As a Church of England School we also need to remember that Her Majesty is head of the Anglican Church, though I know at Urswick children and staff of all faiths and backgrounds want to celebrate the Jubilee.’
