A Celebration of Christmas 2021
Despite all of the current challenges, we have celebrated the joys of Christmas at Urswick. Our Christmas decorations have lit up the school and provided numerous photo opportunities. Every Year 7 was given a special Christmas card of a photograph taken with the decorations.
Over 750 children ate a traditional Christmas dinner on Thursday 16th December as Urswick celebrated another year of providing a free lunch for every student.
Unfortunately St John at Hackney Church cancelled our planned Carol Service following a Covid Risk Assessment. At very short notice we switched the celebration of Christmas back to school. Musicians from the Guild Hall of Music joined us to play a devised piece in our ground floor ‘break out’ space. Music and joy spread throughout the school building.
Our Christmas assemblies started with Elijah Summers singing the first verse solo of ‘Once in Royal David’s City’ before we all joined in. Our Senior Organ Scholar, Marco Pieroni played ‘Chaconne’ and led a spirited rendition of ‘O Come All Ye Faithful’. Prefect Abdul Chowdhery read a piece of Islamic Poetry ‘The House of Jesus’ by Romi, celebrating the virtues of Jesus, son of Mary.
The entire Urswick Community was united in celebration and prayers for a better 2022. Christmas celebrations were definitely not cancelled at The Urswick School.
